Interesting post and comments over at ScriptingNews. Dave is closing the InBerkeley hyperlocal news site. It did not pan out as he had hoped.
Dave was looking for people building news stories together and what happened was individuals contributed more or less complete articles. He believes that method is not sustainable. (Interestingly, I was briefly involved in a similar site awhile back. It didn't work either.)
I'm a big hyperlocal fan, so I wonder why the community came out the way it did. Was it the tools? local culture? community management?
They are planning a re-launch of sorts. It should be interesting to see what they can make happen.
